| I have a M.A.
in General Psychology from Temple University and my Ph. D. from Bryn Mawr
College in Child Development and Clinical Evaluation. After a clinical
internship at the State Reception Center at Philadelphia General Hospital,
I worked with autistic children for two years. After marrying my psychiatrist
husband, Howard Baker, M. D., I took time to have two sons. After my sons
had their feet on the ground I started developing a private practice,
working primarily with adults in individual, couples and group psychotherapy.
As my sons grew older, I started seeing more children and adolescents
as well. My office in Wynnewood is in my home, located off Lancaster Avenue,
at 1200 Remington Road. During the 80s and continuing today, I developed
a strong theoretical orientation in self psychology, a branch of psychology
that emphasizes the empathic understanding of helping individuals develop
and sustain positive self esteem. I also developed a specialty in Attention
Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities in children
and adults. This interest originated from my son’s diagnosis of
ADHD in third grade.
At present, I see individuals, couples and families as well as facilitate
group psychotherapy. Over the last several years, I have become trained
in EMDR (a clinical technique for treating trauma) and a reading tutoring
program for children and adults called PACE. My overarching goal in psychotherapy
is to help people access and delineate their strengths and at the same
time help them understand and let go of their burdens.
